Toowoomba Grammar School, a leading independent boys' school in Queensland, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced educator to join our team as the Head of Diverse Learners. This key leadership position plays a central role in supporting and enhancing the educational experience of our diverse student body.

 

About Toowoomba Grammar School
Toowoomba Grammar School was founded in 1875 and is a member school of the Great Public Schools Association of Queensland (GPS).  It is an independent non-denominational day and boarding school for boys with a total enrolment of 1,200 from Preparatory to Year 12.  There are approximately 300 boarders in the School coming predominantly from throughout Queensland, Northern New South Wales and the Northern Territory.  The School’s campus covers 20.5 hectares and is located one kilometre from the centre of Toowoomba.

About the Position
As the Head of Diverse Learners, your primary purpose will be to lead the Senior School's program in support of inclusive education. You will act as the central point of contact for students, parents, and staff, providing specialist advice on inclusive strategies, differentiation, intervention and extension.

You will also oversee the Diverse Learners’ team in the Senior School and collaborate with the Deputy Head Teaching and Learning Junior School to ensure appropriate deployment of resources based on identified needs.

Selection Criteria:
You will be able to demonstrate your ability and commitment to:

  1. Educational Leadership: Demonstrated experience in educational leadership within a school environment, with a focus on supporting diverse learners through accessible and aligned curriculum and assessment practices. Demonstrated capacity to lead and inspire the Inclusive Education team, while also fostering the professional growth of the entire teaching staff in inclusive practices. This includes building whole-school capability to deliver effective, accessible, and inclusive learning programs for all students.

  2. Expertise in Inclusive Education: Possess tertiary or post-graduate qualifications in education in the specific specialisation area, and eligibility to be registered with the Queensland College of Teachers. Highlight your specialist knowledge of the Australian Curriculum in Queensland (ACiQ), pedagogy practices, and the use of data to inform decisions. Demonstrated expertise in leading and designing curriculum and assessment that are accessible, aligned, and responsive to diverse student needs. Expertise in implementing a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework addressing academic (including Response to Intervention), social-emotional, and behavioural domains to provide comprehensive support for all learners.

  3. Student-Centric Approach: Proven ability to provide specialist advice and support to students, parents, and teachers in relation to student support, differentiation, intervention, and extension. Demonstrate your capability in case management of diverse learners, including developing Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs) and Individual Curriculum Plans (ICPs). Emphasise your experience in advocating for students needing additional support and maintaining productive working relationships with stakeholders.

  4. Collaborative Communication: Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels, and with all stakeholders. Illustrate your capacity to liaise effectively with psychologists, external support services, school counsellors, and school staff to ensure seamless communication regarding individual learning needs across the Senior School. Capacity to co-teach and lead other forms of teacher professional development.

  5. Strategic Resource Management: Proven experience in allocating school resources to best support students. Show how you have overseen applications for funding and implemented screening, diagnostic testing and data analysis to inform decision-making. Highlight your ability to chair a Data Committee, working with Senior School and Junior School staff to inform intervention and extension and support the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) process P-12.
    Candidates must be registered, or eligible for registration, as teachers in Queensland and be willing to participate in the co-curricular programme of the School.
